George Walter Beckett was born in 1897 (Mildenhall Q1-1897 4A:841), son of George and Florence BECKETT (née WAKE).

1901 census...Aged 4,he was at Beck Row Road, Mildenhall with his mother Florence BECKETT [27] born Barton Mills and his sister Florence [2] born Mildenhall. His father George BECKETT [29] a mailman, was boarding with Elizabeth HOOK [59](widow and publican) and her family, in Soham.

1911 census...Aged 14, he was at Waverley Cottages, The Field, Mildenhall, with his parents (father a jobbing bricklayer) and sisters Millie [12] and Eva [7] born Mildenhall. Sister Florence was registered as Millie Florence M. BECKETT.

The pension card has his mother at North Road,Mildenhall.


George enlisted in Mildenhall . His Army service records have not been found, but his "Soldiers effects" record has him killed in Syria.
The 163rd MG Company was formed in 54th (East Anglian) Division on 1 May 1916. On March 23rd 1917 they were getting ready for the 1st Battle of Gaza.(26th/27th)
George was the only one of his company to die that day.
